As of August 11, a company may no longer call a consumer without the consumer’s prior, free, informed, and explicit consent. The main exception applies to an existing contract and a solicitation directly related to it. Consent is time-limited and cannot be tacitly renewed. A contract obtained in violation of these rules may be rescinded. This is a significant change for both consumers and businesses that use prospect lists.
